ROLE: MARKETING OFFICER

Full-Time or Part-Time


PURPOSE OF THE POST

Reporting to the Artistic Director and working alongside other members of the overall Accidental team.

The post holder will be responsible for developing, driving & executing the communications & press strategy for Accidental.

Including but not limited to: social media strategy, content, and management; leading the development and execution of the overall marketing & press plan; researching best practice & up to date marketing & communications practices; and developing artist, user & audience knowledge bases.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The marketing & press officer role is full-time but designed to be flexible hours if a candidate prefers part-time. It will suit an inventive and dedicated individual who would like to grow as part of an organisation and team that is also growing.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategy Development

  • Accidental is a new organisation and is building both new ways of developing it’s artistic work but also new ways of conversing with our audience. The Marketing Officers main role will be in strategy development in how to reach & converse with our audience;

  • This will also include researching best practice examples from around the world, from both inside & outside the artistic field. Beg, borrow & stealing from as many existing practices as will suit our work & methodologies;

  • Developing in-house solutions to both traditional communications avenues, social media, press liaison as well as inventing new ways to develop a relationship with our audience.

Digital Communications

  • Research & implement new ways of growing the Accidental digital audience, initially on social media and via our mailing list and later on streaming platforms such as Youtube, Twitch & social platforms;

  • Manage our social media platforms, creating regular engaging content and responding to posts in a timely and appropriate manner (including evenings and weekends);

  • Regularly update website content and monitor website performance to ensure it remains at the cutting edge of design and technology, providing a creative and engaging interface with audiences and bookers;

  • Regularly create & schedule eflyers to the Accidental mailing list.

Press & Visiting Artists

  • Liaise with journalists, bloggers & influencers to ensure that stories about the theatre and its productions are disseminated widely;

  • Provide support to Visiting Productions including: listing on listing websites, social media activity, display of promotional material in the venue and promotions to drive sales;

  • Be the main communications contact for visiting & in-house artists in the promotion of their events;

  • Develop & distribute press releases & follow-up with journalists to garner the most positive attention for the productions Accidental hosts & creates.

Design and Print 

  • Collate and commission material for, and supervise the production of, print materials including show programmes, posters fliers and season brochures. Provide support to Visiting Productions including What’s On listing on website, social media activity, display of promotional material in the venue and promotions to drive sales.

  • Ensure distribution of printed materials to key outlets including cultural organisations, libraries, leisure centres, bar and restaurants and accommodation providers.

  • Ensure current print materials are neatly presented in the Accidental Front of House areas.

  • Implement direct mail campaigns about Accidental Productions to patrons on box office system according to their past purchasing history and / or art form preferences.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

ESSENTIAL

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a Marketing and Communications environment

  • Extensive experience of digital marketing including the management of social media and websites

  • Experience of and the ability to demonstrate excellent copywriting, presentational and communication skills

  • Excellent IT skills

  • Experience of working with the media

  • Creative flair and a good visual sense

  • Organisational skills and attention to detail

  • The ability to work as part of a team

  • Passion for great brands and great design

  • Degree-level qualification

DESIRABLE

  • Experience of Photoshop, Squarespace and Final Cut Pro X

  • Experience of working in the arts industry

  • Experience of managing budgets

  • Experience of working with media buying and design agencies
