Britten Pears Arts is looking for a creative & strategic leader for its new role overseeing the delivery of a year-round performance programme & public engagement activity focusing on Benjamin Britten, Peter Pears & their lives.

Britten Pears Arts is a pioneering music, arts and heritage charity based on the Suffolk coast. It was created in 2020 when the two long established charities which formed the legacy of Britten and Pears’ life and work, Snape Maltings (formerly Aldeburgh Music) and Britten-Pears Foundation came together.

This is a new role, created to oversee the delivery of our year-round performance programme, as well as our public engagement activity which focuses on Benjamin Britten, Peter Pears and their lives.

Reporting to the Director, Music Programme, the role also has a close working relationship with Roger Wright, CEO as well as our other department heads who lead on our other strands of work. A key part of this role will be collaborating with colleagues to create a coherent and deliverable programme.

Their ideal candidate will have established a reputation as a creative and strategic leader with a track record of leading and developing teams. You will have an excellent understanding, and knowledge, of classical music and its audiences, as well as an interest in diverse musical genres, and will have been involved in public engagement, audience development, programming or project management.  You will confidently challenge existing ways of working, bring new ideas whilst respecting the views of others, building effective working relationships along the way.  A key objective for this role is for their work to have the greatest positive impact possible for both audiences and artists.

They do not expect candidates to be expert on Britten and Pears prior to commencing this role, but candidates must understand their lives in the context of the international music industry. Public Engagement activities are part of the overall Music & Heritage Programmes, and can include events such as study days, discovery sessions, archive talks, innovative performance moments, illustrated rehearsals or digital capture & events – however, they’re open to new ideas and ready to listen.

Britten and Pears is an equal opportunities employer and believe that diversity strengthens and enriches us. We positively encourage applications from suitably qualified and eligible candidates of all ages and from all backgrounds, in particular from minority ethnic backgrounds and disabled candidates who are currently under-represented at Britten Pears Arts.

To apply please send a covering letter and application form to Helen Fletcher, HR Director hfletcher@brittenpearsarts.org
