Essential Journeys by Crescent Arts Youth Theatre

Essential Journeys‘ is a company devised piece facilitated by Andrea Grimason CAYT Director and created by Crescent Arts Youth Theatre in response to the restrictions and impact on young people.

during this global pandemic. The project has three phases, Scheming and Dreaming – where the company met up in Botanic Gardens to have socially distanced alfresco writing workshops based around their personal experiences during lockdown and beyond. Phase two, Performing and Filming is near completion. Our members have been workshopping their monologues online and receiving mentoring and support from one of our group, Peter Shaw, who is second year Theatre and Film Studies at University of Ulster, on performing to camera and shooting your scene. Phase 3 will be a Live Performance [yeah!] of ‘Essential Journeys’ in The Cube at The Crescent Arts Centre when we open our doors again. This piece of physical theatre will be a collective response to the film and will use projections and film footage that Peter has collected from the group throughout the process. The monologues created have been poignant, humourous and surreal and we are excited to get CAYT’s creative community back in the theatre with their new work.
