Jerwood Bursaries provide funding to help artists explore and develop their next steps, whether through supporting skills and knowledge development and/or supporting the first stage development of a new idea. We want artists to pursue their interests independently and on their own terms.
The 30 selected artists, curators and producers presented distinctive and insightful ideas for how to shift their practice forwards, through mentoring, training, new collaborations and early-stage research. Their proposals were written before the Covid-19 disruption, and the bursaries have been offered with the flexibility to reshape these ideas where needed. The intention with this fund is to ask artists what they need for their practice and to offer the resources to carve out space for this, on their own terms and without the pressure of an outcome. This feels more pertinent than ever, and this has been reinforced by conversations they have had with the 30 brilliant artists over the last few weeks.
