Post: Assistant Arts and Cultural Programmer
Responsible to: Arts and Cultural Programmer
Salary: njc pt 7 – £20,092
Hours of Work: 36 hours per week
Fixed term contract: 5 months
The Linen Hall Library was formed in 1788 and is one of the best-established arts and cultural institutions in Belfast.
The Assistant Arts and Cultural Programmer will be a team player with the ability to work on their own initiative. The successful candidate will be methodical in their approach, work well under time pressure and possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Job Purpose
- To assist with the development and delivery of the Library’s exhibition and events programme based on the Library’s collections.
- To assist the Arts and Cultural programmer with the curation of exhibitions and events based on the Library’s collections.
- To assist the Arts and Cultural Programmer with the planning forward of the exhibitions and events programme, taking significant anniversaries and key dates into account.
Specific Duties
- To assist the Arts and Cultural Programmer with his daily duties
- To provide relevant staff with information on exhibitions and events.
- To contact and liaise with individuals and organisations who will be or are involved in exhibitions and/or events and prepare letters of agreement for same, as necessary.
- To provide information for and to assist with reports to funders.
- To collect, analyse and share audience data/feedback statistics, including box office reports.
- To manage the box office bookings for events
- To update the Library’s website as required.
- To use zoom and online platforms in order to co-ordinate online events
- To update social media with information on events and provide content related social media post
- To be aware of safeguarding issues.
- To be prepared to be called upon to assist with such other duties as may reasonably be required from time to time, commensurate with the grade and purpose of the post. This role will sometimes involve working outside normal office hours.
- To provide assistance during in-house events. This includes technology, cross checking bookings, distributing evaluations etc.
- To assist with the post-event (online and in-house) routine which includes uploading recordings to YouTube, gathering evaluations, audience follow-up, invoicing.
Person Specification
Essential
- To be qualified to degree level in a relevant discipline.
- Exceptional written communication skills
- Possesses a passion for delivering high quality events and content for the Linen Hall Library.
- Competency in online platforms such as zoom
- Competency in digital social media
- To work well under pressure and possess the excellent planning and organisational skills necessary to meet project deadlines.
- To be able to work with restricted resources.
- To have the ability and aptitude to work well within a small team environment.
Desirable
- A demonstrable understanding of Northern Ireland’s arts and cultural environment.
