In the last two days a group from the Arts Collaboration Network including Theatre & Dance NI, Thrive, the Lyric, The MAC and Belfast Community Circus sent a paper to the NI Executive: Communities Minister Deirdre Hargey, Finance Minister Conor Murphy as well as the First and deputy First Ministers and all 90 MLAs asking for support for significant & comprehensive action to rescue and recover our arts and culture sector and allow it to contribute to the future success of Northern Ireland. The grouping represents arts venues, freelance artists & workers, theatre producers, community-based arts organisations and Festivals & Events. You can read the press release and paper
At the same time, UK Theatre, Society of London Theatre (SOLT) and One Dance UK – who Theatre and Dance NI have also been working closely with – sent a letter to the Prime Minister signed by 158 parliamentarians asking for action to be taken now to rescue the arts sector. Meanwhile, at Stormont, Matthew O’Toole, MLA, asked Minister for the Economy, Diane Dodd’s about support for the arts and culture sector, its multitude of connected workers in the context of the broader creative industries, during a debate on tourism.
