We are excited to announce that from the 11th through to the 24th February 2022, we will be hosting a series of professionally led masterclasses that focus primarily on our artists, supporting their professional development and providing access to develop both their artistic and business skills.

We are looking forward to welcoming Dr Tanya Dean (Programme Chair, Conservatoire, TUD),Ita O’Brien (Intimacy On Set, Normal People, Sex Education), Oona Doherty (Choreographer), Akram Kahn Dance Company, Micheál Meegan (Head of Finance & HR, Lyric Theatre Belfast),Chris Hodgett (Corporate Tax Manager at BDO Northern Ireland), Charlotte Jones (Independent Theatre Council)Copper Square and Carlin Creative Events and Communication.

This is an exciting opportunity for you to reconnect with other creatives in the sector and build relationships with those working around you.

Friday 11th February – Rule/Breaking in Playwriting with Dr Tanya Dean, 2:30pm to 5pm at The Crescent Arts Centre

Saturday 12th February – Dance Masterclass with Jasper Narvaez from Akram Khan Dance Company, 2:30pm to 6:30pm at The MAC Belfast

Tuesday 15th February – Theatre Tax Relief with Micheál Meegan and Chris Hodgett, 3:30pm to 5pm via Zoom

This training will provide producing companies with the knowledge of how to benefit financially from Theatre Tax Relief. The training will cover what the relief is, how is it calculated, time limits, qualifying conditions, touring and non-touring productions, how to claim, income calculation, breaking down expenditure and common issues.

This training is particularly prevalent, with the announcement in the government’s autumn budget that tax reliefs for theatres (touring productions), orchestras, museums, and galleries will be doubled until April 2023, to help support organisations through the COVID crisis.

Thursday 17th February – Dance Masterclass with Oona Doherty, 10am to 5pm at The Crescent Arts Centre

Thursday 17th February – Principles of Contracts with Charlotte Jones from Independent Theatre Council, 10am to 1pm via Zoom

The session will cover the principles of contract law and practice, including: how to make successful legally binding contractual agreements, what a good contract should contain, an explanation and exploration of contract terms, breaches of contract, cancellations, frustration of contracts and making contracts work for you to build successful business relationships.

Friday 18th February – Intimacy on Set Guidelines for Industry Practitioners in Theatre, TV and Film with Ita O’Brien, 9am to 12:30pm at The Lyric Belfast

Friday 18th February – Intimacy On Set Guidelines for Educators in Drama & Film with Ita O’Brien, 1:30pm to 5:00pm at The Lyric Belfast

Tuesday 22nd February – Social Media Training & Trends for Artists with Copper Square, 10am to 12pm via Zoom

Tuesday 22nd February – PR in the Arts with Copper Square and Carlin Creative Events and Communications, 1pm to 3pm via Zoom

Thursday 24th February – Contract Negotiation Techniques and Practice with Charlotte Jones from Independent Theatre Council, 10am to 1pm via Zoom

Having gained a deeper understanding of contract law and practice, this session will examine the communication and personal skills needed to negotiate effective contractual relationships. It will offer an opportunity to put theories and techniques into practice playing to your own personal strengths and building confidence.

This series is open to anyone over the age of 18. The structure and content of the masterclasses have been developed with TDNI members.

TDNI are committed to the Health & Safety of our staff, members and the general public. If Covid-19 restrictions prohibit the in-person sessions within this series, the training will be rescheduled. Whilst the government guidelines have been eased, to protect everyones safety, and given the nature of some of our workshops, we will still require participants who are attending in person to provide:

Proof of a negative Lateral Flow Test taken no more than 12 hours prior to the event. This result should then be sent to Molly at projects@theatreanddanceni.org. Please be aware participants may be asked to take a lateral flow test on arrival to the building if no prior information has been provided. 

If your lateral flow test is positive do not come along to this event and please report your test result here.Theatre and Dance NI will not be recording the lateral flow test results, they are just for use for your event.
