TheatreNI & Dance Resource Base response to Budgetary Consultation 2018-2020

The Human Face of the Proposed Cuts

TheatreNI & Dance Resource Base response to Budgetary Consultation 2018-2020

TheatreNI is the representative body dedicated to supporting and developing theatre and the performing arts for all in Northern Ireland. Our remit includes the art forms of drama, physical theatre, dance, circus, street theatre, musical theatre and opera.

Dance Resource Base (DRB) exists to support the dance community in Northern Ireland and is the only such organisation working across all styles and types of dance. DRB provides facilities, resources and services for people involved in dance, as well as playing an advocacy role in raising the profile of the art form. DRB is committed to acting collaboratively with like-minded partners to nurture the development of dance artists, increase audiences at dance performances and build participation in dance activities across Northern Ireland. We believe that this is the best way to get everybody dancing!

The two organisations represent over 250 members including venues, festivals, independent freelance arts businesses, dance artists, theatre makers, community and health arts practitioners and the broader youth theatre sector across Northern Ireland.

We welcome the opportunity to respond to the NI Budgetary Outlook (2018-2020) issued by the Department for Finance on 18th December 2018. We urge the Department to genuinely take on board the responses from the arts sector who are facing yet another cut – proposed at 8% – to the Annual Funding Programme (AFP) from our principal funder, the Arts Council of Northern Ireland (ACNI).
