We are so pleased to be running our fourth in person session as part of our Mental Health and Wellbeing Series with support from Belfast City Council.

For the last four months, Theatre and Dance NI have hosted these sessions led by a team of professional facilitators helping to reconnect people while sharing information resources on mental health and wellbeing.

We hope you can join us for some Mindfullness and Movement at 10am on Friday 4th March at The Crescent Arts Centre. To book your place click here!

The session will run as follows:

10am – 11am Mindfulness with Fiona Montgomery

This 60-minute introduction to mindfulness course is designed for anyone who is coming to mindfulness for the first time but suitable for those who practice mindful meditation in their life already. The session will include the following elements:

• Brief explanations of the key concepts relating to mindfulness

• A chance to try out some short mindfulness meditation practices, guided by Fiona

• Opportunities to find support through sharing experiences of doing the practices with other participants

• Guidance on how to do the practices at home each day

• Suggestions for ways to promote self-care in difficult circumstances

• Resources such as links to video clips, suggested reading materials and useful websites

Fiona is a fully qualified mindfulness teacher registered with the Mindfulness Teachers Association of Ireland (MTAI) and the British Association for Mindfulness Based Approaches (BAMBA). Fiona has been teaching mindfulness since 2018, including the scientifically backed mindfulness-based stress reduction course (MBSR), mindfulness for parents, mindfulness for pre-schoolers and preschool teachers.

11am – 12:30pm Exploring Movement with Suzannah McCreight

Choreographer and movement educator Suzannah McCreight will lead a session that explores how aspects of Laban’s movement concepts can transform a performer’s sensation of movement in the body; through somatic explorations connecting patterns of breathing with the body and the space.

Suzannah McCreight, an experienced dancer, choreographer, rehearsal director and contemporary dance tutor has been working as an independant dance artist for over twenty years. She recently launched Green Light Dance Company, based in Belfast, and plans to continue creating her own work whilst supporting dancers and perfoming artists through movement coaching and mentoring. Suzannah also teaches movement on the Rose Bruford foundation course for actors.

This session is designed for performers (theatre, drama, tv, dance) at any stage of their career.
