This survey is issued by the Arts Council. It asks artists how they have been impacted by COVID restrictions over the past year and what their needs are now for the future. It follows on from previous artist COVID impact surveys issued in 2020 and 2021 and will allow them to track and compare responses over that period. Data from previous surveys has been published on their website including in our Covid Response report and has informed the conversations with Government including the Oireachtas Committee on Media, Tourism, Arts, Culture, Sport and the Gaeltacht.

Who should fill out this survey?
This survey is for completion by professional artists who are normally based in Ireland. This is a person who identifies themselves and is recognised by their peers as an artist, who is actively pursuing a career as an artist in any art form, and who considers their arts work as their main profession or career. This applies even if their work in the arts is not their main source of income or they have other employment.

How long will it take?
They estimate it will take approx. 5 – 10 mins. This is a shorter survey than those they have issued previously.  You can click through the full survey to see all the questions before you start. However, if you select certain answer options in the survey then additional questions may appear requesting more detail.

Do I have to answer all the questions?
No – there are no mandatory questions. If a question isn’t relevant to you or you don’t want to answer it – that’s okay – just move on.

How will the Arts Council use the information I provide?
They will use the data we collect to inform our planning, policy development, advocacy and COVID response work. While they are not asking survey participants for data that would identify them personally, they are conscious that by layering data it may be possible to identify certain individuals. They will therefore treat all data as personal data and will abide by GDPR regulations, which means they won’t share your data with third parties. They will only report on findings at an aggregate level. They will ask you at the end of the survey if you are willing to let them use any quotes from narrative responses you may have provided. Any quotes used will not be attributable to any individual.

What is the deadline?
The survey is open until 29 April 2022
