“Award-winning choreographer Mathieu Geffré is looking for two outstanding cis/trans female or non-binary dance artists with a high level of training in contemporary dance for the creation of Rendez-Vous’s new theatre production: The Monocle.

Where: Dance City, Newcastle, UK

When: 2nd and 3rd of October

Deadline for applications: 17th September – 12 noon (UK Time)

Recipient of the Made In The North East commission, Mathieu Geffré’s new production is a re-creation of “Le Monocle”, one of the most flamboyant lesbian Parisian club in the 1930’s. Conceived as a fun night out for the audience, The Monocle will re-shape the traditional theatre into a club where audiences can participate in a highly virtuosic evening mixing dance and live music.

Mathieu’s choreographic style requires performers to demonstrate a high level of physicality as well as a collaborative, playful and sensitive awareness throughout the creative and touring process. Performers must be comfortable with improvisation and partnering work.

Mathieu’s choreography carries essential values of inclusivity; therefore we actively encourage applications from artists who self-identify as black, Asian, ethnically diverse, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer, non-binary, neurodiverse or disabled.  Although this is a national call-out, we will pay particular attention to artists who either, were born, trained and/or are based in the North East of England. Because of Brexit we are unfortunately unable to consider applications from performers who do not hold the right to work in the UK at this time.

Please know we will be following current Government Covid-19 guidelines throughout the process.

Before applying, please ensure you are available for all the below dates.

Creation period:
6 – 17 December 2021
10 January – 4 February 2022

Regional Touring
5 February – 26 February 2022 (9 shows in total)

Fee: £535 per week (inc. holiday pay)

Please note that we will not be able to provide feedback for the applicants who will not be shortlisted.
