International Parenting and Dance Network

Queen’s University Belfast

15th September 2023

As part of the AHRC Networking Project, International Parenting and Dance Network invite proposals for their first symposium – ‘Researching Parenting and Dance: creative and practice-based methods and processes’ – at Queen’s University Belfast on 15th September, 2023.

As an embodied artform, dance provides a rich site of enquiry into parenthood, offering unique insights into the profound impact experiences of parenthood can have on physicality, subjectivity, and artistic working practices. This network brings together an international group of scholars, practitioners, and industry professionals who approach the topic of parenthood and dance from a variety of perspectives that cross disciplinary, methodological, and territorial boundaries. Three hybrid seminar events – two held in the UK (QUB, CCCU) and one in the US (Texas Tech) – will consider both creative processes and critical discourse intersecting with the topic of parenting and dance, and the work-life experiences of dance artists with caring responsibilities.

The first seminar at QUB will consider the intersection of parenting and dance across the following areas of research:

  • Creative processes and practices that address and/or support parenting and dance
  • Performance and practice-based/practice-as research related to parenting and dance
  • Interdisciplinary and/or mixed methods research on the topic of parenting and dance

Participation is free, but places are limited.
