TDNI have been delivering dance intensives annually in NI since 2021 collaborating with dance sector leaders like Akram Khan Dance Company, Oona Doherty, Michael Keegan-Dolan, The Workroom (Scotland), the MAC and Belfast International Arts Festival.
These intensives not only provide a platform for emerging and established artists to collaborate and develop their skills; but also contributes to the ongoing development of the vibrant dance sector across the island of Ireland, strengthening its position on the international stage. The programmes support exceptional artists to take part in an intensive with other professionals, establishing new and meaningful UK, Irish and transnational relationships; fostering knowledge exchange among creative practitioners from across the UK and beyond.

Oona Doherty – Two-Day Intensive at The MAC, February 2023
Oona Doherty has been performing internationally since 2010 with companies such as TRASH (Netherlands), Abattoir Ferme (Belgium), Veronika Riz (Italy), Enda Walsh and Landmark Productions (Ireland). Her work Hard to be Soft: a Belfast Prayer was voted top UK dance show by the Guardian (2019). She was awarded the La Biennale Di Venezia’s Silver Lion for dance (2021) and the Chanel NEXT prize (2024).
During the intensive participants learned ideas and material from Oona’s award-winning show, Navy Blue. Participants worked with balletic form, flocking and ‘strings’ a form of sporadic chaos and submission.
