Du Dance is delighted to have received funding from the Arts Council of Northern Ireland to support Alternative Energies, a community-based arts project designed to benefit older people. This funding is part of the National Lottery Arts and Older People Programme, a groundbreaking initiative supported by The National Lottery and the Public Health Agency. The programme aims to reduce loneliness and promote positive mental health and well-being among older people through their engagement with the arts.
Alternative Energies is an intergenerational dance project that brings together young people aged 15-18 and older adults aged 65+ in Ballycastle, County Antrim. The project provides an opportunity for both groups to meet, create, and have fun, all while participating in dance workshops and performances. This initiative fosters meaningful connections between young and older people within the same community.
The programme is free to join, with weekly sessions held every Wednesday from 4:00pm to 5:30pm at Sheskburn Recreation Centre, 7 Mary St, Ballycastle BT54 6QH. For more information, please contact deborah@dudanceni.com.
Du Dance extends its thanks to National Lottery players and those who raise funds for good causes, whose continued support makes this valuable programme possible.
