The NRW KULTURsekretariat is once again offering dance artists a total of four residencies lasting several weeks in 2026 for theme-based, production-independent research. With a focus on the member cities of the NRWKS, Tanzrecherche NRW 2026 promotes artistic mobility – both from NRW to other countries and from abroad to NRW. The local integration of the research location is important in order to provide sustainable impetus for individual artistic practice and the local cultural landscape.
Dance artists from abroad who wish to conduct research in NRW, as well as dance artists from one of the 20 member cities of the NRWKS who wish to conduct research abroad that is specific to a particular location or occasion, are eligible to apply.
Tanzrecherche NRW deliberately shifts the focus away from production and towards the promotion of experimental artistic practices. It is therefore explicitly not a production grant.
Up to 6,000 euros are available for each grant, depending on the type and scope of the research. In addition, up to €1,000 will be provided for documentation, subject to agreement. The funding also includes personal support, mentoring, moderation and mediation with institutions and experts by the NRW KULTURsekretariat.
The research period is between January and December 2026.
Application period:Â 01 September to 20 October 2025
