Grants are available to large charitable groups and organisations in the UK for projects that further the objectives of the NFU Mutual Charitable Trust, particularly those that educate young people in rural areas and the relief of poverty in rural areas.

Objectives of Fund
The Trust offers grants to charitable organisations working in agriculture, rural development and insurance in the UK.
Currently, the Trust’s main objectives are to:
- Advance the education of the public by means of research and dissemination of information in relation to agriculture.
- Advance the education of young people within rural areas.
- Relieve poverty within rural areas.
- Promote the benefit and social welfare of inhabitants of rural communities by associating together with the inhabitants and local authorities, voluntary and other organisations to advance education and leisure.
- Advance the education of the public by means of research and dissemination of information in relation to agriculture.
- Promote research into agricultural associated activities.
- Advance the education of the public by means of research and disseminationof information in relation to insurance.
The Trust will focus on funding larger initiatives which would have significant impact on the rural community. the Trustees are particularly interested in initiatives in the areas of education of young people in rural areas and relief of poverty within rural areas.
Value Notes
Funding is at the discretion of the Trust. Most grants fall within the range of £1,000 to £50,000.
Larger grants are used to support organisations which have a significant impact on rural communities at a national level.
Match Funding Restrictions
Match funding is not required but it is welcomed.
Who Can Apply
Charitable organisations based and working within the UK seeking funding for charitable initiatives in the areas of education, research, social welfare and poverty relief can apply.
It is not necessary to be a registered charity to apply as long as the funding is for charitable purposes.
The Trustees generally provide support to organisations that have strong farming and insurance backgrounds.
Restrictions
Funding is not available for the following:
- University fees.
- Salaries.
- Overseas appeals.
Eligible Expenditure
The funding will support the running costs of various projects and services, particularly those larger initiatives, which would have a significant impact on the rural community.
For 2021, the Trust seeks to support more national organisations, reaching the isolated and vulnerable, those experiencing mental health issues and families facing financial challenges, some of those due to coronavirus/COVID-19.

The Trustees currently meet twice a year (in June and November) to consider applications.
The 2022 deadlines for applications are:
- 27 May for the 21 June 2022 meeting.
- 28 October for the 23 November 2022 meeting.
