Making an Application

Before you start your application please read the following:

1. There is no typical grant – each grant application is considered on its own merits.

2. The Trust funds one-off grants for capital expenditure or three-year grants for core costs or project funding.

3. Ensure you have other sources of funding or can match any funding the Trust might provide (not applicable for capital grants). Audited accounts and detailed budgets will need to be submitted.

4. A visit by the Trust to your project may be necessary.

The Trustees can only consider applications from registered charities as registered with the Charity Commission of England and Wales; OSCR in Scotland; and the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland. If you are an excepted or exempted charity you can apply. We do not consider appeals from individuals or from registered charities for the benefit of named individuals. Grants cannot be paid to umbrella bodies or to third parties.

On-going commitments, combined with the fact that the Trustees are taking an increasingly active role in identifying projects to support, means that uncommitted funds are limited and it is not always possible to make grants in response to unsolicited appeals. Applicants must set out the essential details of a project on two sides of A4 paper, portrait not landscape (not 1.5 pages, not 2.5 pages but 2 pages). These two pages of A4 are critical and suggested headings include: What you are doing, Why you are doing it, What you aspire to do differently and Who it is benefiting from your mission outreach. Do not place photographs in your 2 sides of A4 – they will only photocopy black and add no value and do not send DVDs or glossary brochures.

Do not submit a “laundry list” of areas of activity – either focus on the complete capital project or the work of the charity. The principle of matched funding (not applicable for capital grants) is very much part of any application – if in any doubt what this means please contact the Secretary.

The following information is required in your 2 x A4:

1. Charity name and charity registration number;
2. A detailed description of the project for which funding is sought;
3. What you are doing, why you are doing it and what you aspire to do;
4. Who is benefiting from your missional outreach;
5. If your application is for a building project provide evidence of existing mission, how this mission will grow in the future, and confirm that the faculty has been granted (if appropriate) and planning permission (or a building warrant in Scotland) has been secured.

A summary of budget and costings of the project (for revenue applications a 3 year income and expenditure budget for the period that you are asking funding for) should be placed in an appendix to the 2 x A4, including details of grant applications made to other external funders.

You must enclose a copy of your most recent monthly management accounts (if you don’t have any you may wish to ask yourselves why not), and a copy of your most recent audited annual report and accounts (a full set, not just a selection of summary pages).

A covering letter is expected to accompany your submission (not an unsigned compliment slip) – please remember to provide details of the contact person: postal address, email address and telephone number.

Applications must be sent in hard copy and NOT by email.

In 2020 the Trustees will meet in October to consider applications. Visits to applications may be made by the Secretary and Trustees.

All appeals are treated on a “first come, first served” basis and will be acknowledged when they have been assessed which may take 2/3/4 weeks. Applicants will be advised that if they do not receive a reply by a specified date it has not been possible for the Trustees to make a grant.

Please note there is no entitlement to grant funding and it is not possible for the Trust to fund every application that is received.

Please note the Trust is not a repeat or ongoing funder at the end of the funding term.
