Join inspirational voices in environmental activism, inclusion and placemaking, alongside leading artistic directors, theatre operators, architects and consultants to collectively imagine a more resilient, sustainable, and inclusive future for theatres.

Theatres Trust Conference 2022 will take a broad look at the state of the UK’s theatres and ask how they can come back stronger from the pandemic.  What will the ‘new post-Covid normal’ look like and what does this mean for the way we design, adapt and run our theatres?

Under the title Theatres Fit for the Future, the conference will focus on creating a lively, engaging, dynamic gathering of professionals to collectively imagine a more viable, sustainable, and inclusive future for our theatres, and the people who visit and work in them.

Programme and speakers
We have speakers from a range of different contexts to help us with our thinking. People from different walks of life and from across the country and around the world. Their brief is to ask questions of us, to stimulate and provoke, on the understanding that individually and collectively we can imagine our theatres are fit for the future.

Conference sessions include:

  • exploring new business models to ensure theatres not only survive but thrive in this new environment.
  • imagining what a truly inclusive theatre might look like, that takes account of everyone’s access and cultural needs.
  • returning to environmental sustainability, the topic of Conference 21 and still a vital issue for the sector.
  • discussing the enhanced role for theatres as part of placemaking in light of the Levelling Up agenda and increased devolution.
