University of Atypical for Arts and Disability recently hosted the final Creative Networking Event of 2025 for d/Deaf, disabled and neurodivergent artists, aligning with this year’s International Day of Persons with Disabilities programme.

Focusing on Disability Arts on the International Stage, the event brought together acclaimed international artists Kate Guelke, Shiro Masuyama and Sinead O’Donnell, who shared honest, generous insights into working across borders. Their conversation explored the opportunities and challenges of developing an international practice, offering real-world learning for artists in Northern Ireland seeking to build their careers globally.

The session spotlighted the vital contributions disabled artists make worldwide and encouraged attendees to consider how we can collectively shape more inclusive, connected and equitable international arts networks.

TDNI Director Niamh Flanagan joined Siobhan Molloy (Arts Council of Northern Ireland) to outline current international pathways, support programmes and opportunities available to artists and organisations. Their contribution helped contextualise how Northern Ireland’s sector can continue to grow its international reach.

A lively panel discussion and open Q&A created space for peer learning and exchange, followed by informal networking, delivering a valuable opportunity for d/Deaf, disabled and neurodivergent artists from all artforms to connect in a relaxed, welcoming environment.

University of Atypical will deliver two further Creative Networking Events next year. d/Deaf, disabled or neurodivergent artists interested in taking part can contact Sheena at sheena@universityofatypical.org.
