Movement Workshops by Suzannah McCreight
30th – 31st March from 9.30am – 12.30pm
Crescent Arts Centre, Belfast
Free to attend.
For dancers and actors.
Deadline: 20th March 2023.
As a recipient of ACNI’s Artist Career Enhancement Scheme 2022, Suzannah has been focusing on the link between professional movement coaching and the choreographic process. Connecting somatic explorative approaches with the Kestenberg and Laban movement systems, Suzannah will deliver two advanced/professional-level workshops to selected dancers, actors or movement practitioners, based on her recent research.
Suzannah is an experienced contemporary dancer, choreographer, rehearsal director and movement tutor. She worked as a freelancer in England and Scotland from 1998 before relocating to Belfast in 2007. She recently set up Green Light Dance Company and now teaches movement to actors on the Rose Bruford foundation course.
During each workshop, we will take time to arrive in our bodies; working initially on the floor with eyes closed. Then, taking a progressive journey through improvisation, we will gradually include more layers of movement. Finally we will explore some creative tasks connected to Suzannah’s recent choreography.
Workshops themes:
Thursday 30th March:
Growing and Shrinking – Shaping the body in space
Considering internal body rhythms and core shape changes in relationship to multi-dimensional movement.
Friday 31st March:
Dynamic variations and the expressive journey from inner to outer
Exploring motivation and expression; how it forms in the body and develops into fully expressed effort.
This research project and accompanying workshops have been made possible by the National Lottery and Arts Council of Northern Ireland.
