“Open Auditions With The Casting Director

Open Auditions are one way of broadening horizons when it comes to casting. We’re not always casting for anything specific – it’s just a chance to connect. Of course we’ve got an eye on the productions we have coming up in the next year, and hoping to meet people who might be the right fit for one of our shows.

Open Meetings will be held on a weekly basis and will give professional actors the opportunity to meet with the Lyric casting director. We may occasionally invite a freelance director to join these meetings in order to increase the connections within our artistic community. To find out more, including how to apply, keep reading…

FAQs

What do you mean by ‘Open Meeting’?

This isn’t an audition for a specific show – it’s a general meeting with our Casting Director and potentially one freelance director where you will have a chance to chat to and/or perform a monologue or a short scene.

What will I have to prepare for the meeting?

You may use the time just to have a chat with our casting team, however we strongly encourage you to prepare a short monologue or scene from a piece of work to see you in action. This can be a contemporary or classic text. Your meeting should last around 25-30 minutes.

How does it work?

We plan on running up to four open meetings each week, depending on the Casting Director’s availability. Applications will remain open throughout the year until the relevant number of slots have been filled. At this point, applications will close until the following year. We’ll contact successful applicants by email at least a week before the meeting date to confirm timings and location.

How do I apply?

You should email your CV and headshot to casting@lyrictheatre.co.uk with a brief introduction and stating how you meet the eligibility criteria.

Do I need an agent to apply?

No. We are happy to meet professional actors regardless of whether they have an agent or not.

I don’t have a Spotlight Profile or equivalent, does that matter?

No, a Spotlight membership or other profile are not required.

What if I have access requirements?

We welcome you to note any access requirements in your application email.

If I’m successful, when will I get the details?

You will be emailed at least one week in advance with details of the meeting including time, location and who will be at the meeting.

Where will the meeting take place? Do you pay travel costs?

At the Lyric Theatre on Ridgeway Street, Belfast. We do not cover any travel costs.

Are applications open to the UK / Ireland / Rest of the World?

Applications are open to actors who have a right to work in the UK and Ireland.

Can you guarantee that I’ll secure a meeting?

We predict that this process will be popular and therefore can’t guarantee that everyone will be seen. Due to expected volume of applications, we also cannot guarantee that we’ll be able to contact all unsuccessful candidates but welcome them to apply again after twelve months.
