Theatre and Dance NI recently organised and facilitated a meeting with Paddy Dillon from Theatre Green Book and the Green Arts NI (GANI) Steering Group. One of the outcomes will be to work collaboratively towards delivering a major Green Arts event in Belfast in October.
The meeting with Paddy brought together stakeholders from across the sector, with representatives from Belfast City Council (BCC) Culture Unit (who host GANI), the Chair of the  BCC Climate and City Resilience Committee, Rois-Marie Donnelly, Department for Communities, the All-Party Group on the Arts (APGA), Chair, and Sian Mulholland MLA who attended in person. The session marked the first step in delivering a high-impact event that will support connections, learning and exchange on working towards net zero and building on sustainable practices across Northern Ireland’s theatre and wider performing arts sector.
The event, scheduled for October during Belfast International Arts Festival (BIAF) will include:
- Morning Session: A roundtable with policymakers and officials, introducing Theatre Green Book as a valuable tool for driving sustainability. This session will also call for investment in green arts capital, revenue funding, and the development of sector-wide learning networks.
- Afternoon Symposium: A practical, action-focused session for the wider theatre and performing arts sector. With targeted content for theatre-makers, production staff, freelancers, and venue teams, this symposium will combine inspiring talks, case studies, and group discussions aimed at empowering attendees to implement Theatre Green Book principles in their own work.
We’re proud to be working on this vital initiative and look forward to sharing more as plans develop. Stay tuned for further updates.
