Arts & Business are running a new series of webinars, ‘Purpose into Practice’, focusing on purpose and values, and how these can help shape new projects, inform changes to business models and resourcing, and remain at the heart of our work.

Purpose into Practice: Alan Lane, Slung Low Theatre Company

Tuesday 8th June 2021

11am–12pm

We will be joined by Alan Lane, Artistic Director of Slung Low Theatre Company. Slung Low is a theatre company specialising in large scale outdoor people’s theatre work. They manage the oldest working men’s club in Britain in South Leeds as a Pay What You Decide arts centre and social space. During the covid crisis Slung Low operates as a social care referral unit and non-means tested foodbank delivering 8118 referrals in 2020. Alan will share from his own personal experience of community work, about the evolution of Slung Low, and how they have adapted to continue to reach their purpose as a community-driven organisation.

Alan will then be joined for a conversation with Hilary Copeland, Director of Fighting Words NI, a creative writing network for children and young people. Hilary has worked in literature and arts management since 2008, for festivals, arts and theatre companies and nonprofits in Edinburgh, Belfast and Dublin, working across business management, strategic planning, creative programming and event delivery.

Many of you heard Alan weigh in on our Business Models panel as part of our Horizons conference in March – this will be your chance to hear more and take part in the Q&A section at the end.
