Theatre Tax Relief

Theatre and Dance NI are pleased to be hosting again this very important training to provide you with the knowledge of how to access and gain the financial benefits available from Theatre Tax Relief (TTR).

This session will explore what is Theatre Tax Relief and raise awareness of who is eligible for it. Theatre Tax Relief works by increasing the amount of allowable expenditure – where your company makes a loss, you may be able to surrender the loss and convert some or all of it into a payable tax credit.  Presently very few companies in NI are availing of the potentially significant opportunity to access Theatre Tax Relief. Come along and see how your company can avail.

We know sector companies are very busy currently but this training will give organisations, who may not have the means to hire external accountants, the skills to independently apply and claim Theatre Tax Relief. Theatre Tax Relief works retrospectively, meaning work produced pre-Covid, may be eligible for claiming.

This session will benefit production companies as well as small venues who produce.

Theatre and Dance NI are offering five free places to organisations or companies who have not received Stability and Renewal Programme or Organisations Emergency Programme. Please contact Molly at projects@theatreanddanceni.org to avail of one of these free places. These places will be allocated on a ‘first come first served’ basis.

“Even as a working producer I hadn’t heard of Theatre Tax Relief until Theatre & Dance NI highlighted it to me. I hadn’t realised that we were able to reclaim historically on previous tax years. As a result we were able to successfully reclaim money recently that has made a great difference to us during the pandemic in a period of reduced earnings” – Fleur MellorProducer & Choreographer for Peter Corry Productions.

Theatre Tax Relief is one of those things that, once you get the hang of it, becomes easier year on year – so this support from Theatre and Dance NI will be a great place to start. When I initially went through the process and backdated a number of years, we reclaimed around £10k, so it is definitely worth doing.” Zoe FoxGeneral Manager & Producer at Kabosh.
