Background
The British Council plans to launch a new UK / Europe travel grant scheme for early career UK artists and creative practitioners across all art forms. The aim of the scheme is to foster opportunities for artists, particularly those who have not had previous opportunity to work in the EU, to connect and build relations with their counterparts across Europe.
The British Council has worked in Europe for over 80 years, strengthening relationships between the UK and European countries and enabling vital long-term partnerships between arts organisations, artists and professionals from all four parts of the UK.
Covid-19 and the UK’s departure from the EU have reinforced the need for British Council brokering of UK / EU relationships and cultural exchange.

Please help us shape the British Council’s new arts travel grant scheme to support artistic exchange between the UK and European countries by completing the survey.
We have commissioned Tom Fleming Creative Consultancy (TFCC) to carry out research to help us ensure the scheme responds to the needs of the UK arts sector and the challenges and opportunities of both Brexit and Covid-19.
As part of this, we would like to invite members of the UK arts sector e.g. individual artists, creative professionals and practitioners, and members of artistic groups, of any art discipline, based in the UK, to take our survey.
In this survey, we want to hear from you about:
- the impact of the events of the last 12 months on your work;
- your appetite for travel, exchange and collaboration in Europe;
- what you would like to see in a UK / Europe artist mobility scheme for early career artists/professionals;
- existing opportunities or barriers for early career artists to take their first steps towards working in EU Europe.
